I have a couple favorites. They'll never change but more recently and to avoid the usual crowds, I have been exploring and found some nice "new" brookie water(s). These will be sure to keep the juices flowing, with some new toys to cast. "Tomorrow, Tomorrow (ala 'Annie') I'll get one tomorrow..it's only a day a-way...."... -So sorry Phil but the thought of the Expo (tomorrow) and greeting Don S. whilst looking around behind his booth for a shorter "2-tip tube" tends to do that to a boy. That'll never change either!! Thank you for the addy here, although I may end up cursing you for it later... Best regards to you, Jeremy. -maybe I should've chosen "hopeless" for a handle?

It is an oasis only 3 hours from my home in Texas. I haunt the river there as often as I can. You wouldn't think of "Smokey Mountains" in Oklahoma, but the Kiamichi wilderness is pretty and has some hills and is a joy to be in. RStouff: I'm originally from Shreveport and I always thought Atchafalaya was an old Indian word that meant "Where the Hell are we?" LOL That river basin is so rich with life that it is amazing. By the way, do you have any kin in Zwolle? I don't drive through there in the daylight! They are tough on strangers. Steve

I'm not sure what you mean. We have a small river here in Western North Carolina called the Swananowa River. I believe it is in the western edge of the Ouachita Mountain Range and when you drive into the park, the mountain vistas are much like the Smokey Mountains, low hanging clouds and or fog. Wildlife is very abundant since it is in Kiamichi National Forrest and "there are some bears out there". A couple of years ago while tent camping, I heard a bear roar and run up the mountain on the other side of the river. I myself roared, but ran for the truck instead! LOL Steve

Within a 3 hour drive, I can fish for salmon and steelhead in coastal rivers, sea-run cutthroat in Puget Sound, delicate little trout in mountain streams or Alpine lakes, or feisty big trout across the mountains in basin lakes or rivers. But I guess my favorite spot is a good-sized beaver pond about 30 miles due east of Seattle nestled in the Cascade foothills. The beavers dammed an old channel of a nearby river God only know how long ago. The resulting long-skinny pond is home to wild coastal cutthroat and brookies who spawn in three small feeder creeks. The fish aren't big, but they don't see much pressure and will hammer a soft hackle or a dry late in the season. CC

I live in Southern Idaho and within driving distance from some of the best fishing in the world. If you fish the Clarkfork in MT or the SouthFork of the Snake in ID in March/April you have the place to yourself. I recently moved out to Bristow, Va. (for 2yrs on/off) and have read about the fishing being good in Va and the surrounding area but this place puts a hole new meaning to crowded. I guess the only thing that really matters is what makes you feel good about fishing. I look forward to fishing the Va. and Pa. area's but there is no place like home...

We have a small tailwater that we call the Holy Water that has great midge and BWO hatches in the fall and winter, and a great Salmonfly hatch in June, as does the river. The Upper Sac is just an 1 1/2 hrs. away (unless the Green Drakes are on) then I can make it in about 1hr and 13 min. David - David David E Roberts Guide Service & Fly Tying

The South Branch of the Pike River is where I learned to fish. I can still walk 25 feet from my cabin and start fishing in an area where little private land exists for miles in all directions. But I can also venture to the Pike, Poplar, Pine, Pembonwon, Peshtige, (guess they like "P" words) Rat, Wausaukee, Middle Inlet...well you get the picture...over 900 miles of quality trout streams in the area. While the fish are on average smaller than the ones I catch when fishing Wyoming or Montana, I enjoy not having to looking over my shoulder to check for a grizzley bear who might want to share my space. Fishing in September with the breezes and fall smell is my favorite time.....and did I mention NO (OK, fewer) mosquitoes!!! Chuck
